ARKWOOD GRAIN ELEVATOR

Since Chatham-Kent is a large agriculture community, there is very little decline and abandonment in this sector. However, in Louisville which is a small town between Thamesville and Chatham, there is an abandoned grain elevator that hasn’t seen any life in many years. Due to the growing demand of agriculture in CK, they have expanded the amount of grain elevators throughout the area to meet the farmers’ needs.

This photograph is an image of the abandoned grain elevator located on a back road in Louisville. The size of this location compared to other elevators in the area is remarkably smaller and wouldn’t be sufficient for the amount of grain that would come through during harvest season. There have been many expansions of other grain elevators nearby, to make them larger in order to have room for all the product in the bins. Chatham-Kent doesn’t necessarily see a decline in agriculture, however there is abandonment to a degree which only portrays growth in this sector.
